Author: Campus Martius - Rome's Ancient Field of Mars
I am an independent historian and the author of two books on ancient Rome. The first entitled "Campus Martius - The Field of Mars in the Life of Ancient Rome", published by Cambridge University Press and co-authored with Diane Atnally Conlin, explains how a marshy mustering ground for soldiers of the Roman Republic turned into the Imperial entertainment center of the city with baths, theatres, stadiums and beautiful porticoes. The second is a hyperlinked eBook walking tour of the Campus Martius ("A Walk Through The Field of Mars - Rome's Ancient Campus Martius A Piedi") with three walks (each about 2-3 hours in length) that puts the visitor to Rome's historic center back among these wonderful ancient monuments. The website adds additional information including museum updates, restaurants and great boutique hotels in what was once the "Field of Mars."
